MODULE 1 - ABOUT ME

My name is Aislinn McVittie, and I am a 4th year student at the University of Alberta. This is my first year in the Faculty of Education as an official Secondary Education student, and this is my e-portfolio for the EDU 210 course in educational technology. In this e-portfolio you will find my assignments, discussions, and reflections for each module that consider the role of technology in the development of young minds in educational environments, as well as my strong understanding of the presented content in this course.

Module 1 made certain that the course structure, due dates, getting help/reminders, and contacting professors was clear before moving forward with course material. This was done through the the mandatory Welcome Series (an online story that introduced all of us to the course structure and components) and quiz that tested that material, both of which are found on e-class. Introducing ourselves in Google classroom to the classmates in our assigned groups was also required (you can find my introduction here as long as you're in group E and sign in with your ualberta email). Lastly, I created my e-portfolio - this website! - to record and share future course work with my group members and professors in each module.

Module 1 also served as a brief introduction to the benefits of technology in developing quality education for students, as well as the differing types of e-portfolios that exist, and their benefits to students. The improvement of student well-being and individual development, as well as greater learning potential through the use of technology was discussed in the assigned readings. Because technology is so influential, and is only increasing in popularity in young students, learning skills and reaping the benefits that it has to offer will be important as students march into their future. This e-portfolio will demonstrate this importance as course work is completed through my own technological learning. I'm excited to learn more about engaging my future students through something they will already have a lot of familiarity with.
